Sewanee, TN – As a Food and Beverage Restaurant Server, you will be responsible for interacting with our guests and ensure they have a great experience when dining at the Hotel. Restaurant Servers are responsible for positive guest interactions while serving guests food and beverage in a friendly and efficient manner.  At all times, servers are expected to be attentive to our guest’s needs and making them feel welcome, comfortable, important, and relaxed.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, such as reaching, extending arms over head, bending and stooping
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, push or pull heavy loads.  Requires lifting full bus trays of dishes 50 lbs
  • Ability to push or pull a vacuum and wheeled carts weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Prepares the tables, laying out napkins and utensils, making sure the condiments are refilled, perming all other preparation and side-work tasks
  • Taking guest food and beverage orders
  • Staying updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items, etc.
  • Handle the table assignments, direct customers to their tables, presenting menus, suggestions dishes, assisting in drink selections, informing customers about food preparation details, communicating specific customer needs to the cooks
  • Maintaining proper dining experience, delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, offering desserts and drinks, removing courses, replenishing utensils, refilling glasses
  • Properly open and pour wine at the tableside
  • Obtaining revenues, issuing receipts, accepting payments, returning the change to the guest
  • Performing basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor
  • Filling in for absent staff as needed
  • Assisting with special events as needed
  • Greet all guests warmly with an appropriate greeting
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently
  • Understand and communicate products and services available at the Hotel
  • Must have some familiarity with basic cooking skills.
  • Bus tables and assist with processing dirty dishes if necessary
  • Clean restaurant restrooms if assigned and necessary
  • Assist kitchen with prep work or plating if necessary
  • Deep clean all front of the house areas including windows and entrance as assigned
  • Perform all reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors/Managers

 

JOB REQUIRMENTS

  • High School graduate or equivalent vocational training
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive upbeat attitude/personality
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with a minimum of supervision
  • Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with co-workers and the public
  • Proper food safety training and certification as described by law
  • Experience with computers / POS systems
  • One year of prior experience food and beverage
  • Prior guest relations training
  • Knowledge of proper food handling
